Richard Taylor is a self taught Pop-Art / Surrealist Illustrator who
lives and works in Trinidad and Tobago. His work takes on the many forms
ranging from print design and traditional media to digital illustration,
visual effects for film and cinematography. He focuses on raising
awareness of the benefits of thoughtfulness.
Through various media; watercolours, markers, wall murals, and digital
photography, videography and illustration, he invites us to look closer
and analyze everyday experiences, objects, and people, in an attempt
to combat ignorance and prejudice with clever humor, often of a sarcastic
nature and tone.
Having been heavily influenced by pop culture media; comic books,
video games, film and animation, and Pop Culture icons; Tim Burton,
Salvador Dali, Skottie Young, Frank Miller and Allan Moore, Taylor's
work is structured around an idea best embodied by a statement of Alan
Moore about his own work: "I didn't want to tell people
what to think, I just wanted to tell people to think and consider some
of these admittedly extreme little elements, which nevertheless do recur
fairly regularly throughout human history."
Taylor works as a Director of Photography and Motion Design Artist
with KernRoseFilms and freelances as an Illustrator. His experience
includes working as a 3D Motion Graphic Artist with the TV6 News Program
and as a Motion Productions Assistant with Abovegroup Ogilvy. Taylor
also works under the artist name '1rabbit'; his work is featured on
the eastern wall of the Grand Stands at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, as part of the 'Urban Heartbeat'
Project as well as in a book about the project. He is continually building his name as an Illustrator and Street Artist.
